CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Members of the body of Christ demonstrating His love for us by caring for one another.
Pastor Ken and volunteers will come to support bereaved families and persons making their transition from this life to the next. We will also help coordinate home meals and a luncheon or dinner at family services, if desired.
Provides short-term support by having a meal prepared and delivered to your home by our volunteers. Examples might include: after having a baby, recovering from surgery, during a family crisis or even if there is a power failure in your area.
Having surgery? Stuck at home after surgery? Or is your parent or loved one moving to an Alternate Care Facility? Pastor Ken and volunteers will provide support and visits during your hospitalization, to those who are home bound (long term or temporarily) or are living in alternate care facilities. Communion may also be delivered upon request.
No one has to walk through the difficulties of life alone. Are you facing a mountain and need someone to talk to? Stephen Ministry will assign a confidential lay leader, trained to support & pray with you through whatever trial you face.
Caring for the needs of our congregation is everyone’s job!
Who do you connect with on Sunday morning? Think about who sits in front of you, beside you and behind you. Do you know their names? When you ask them “How are you doing?” Do they know you well enough that they will give you an honest answer? We need to make strong connections with those we worship with each Sunday and listen for the concerns of their heart. If you notice someone is missing for several Sundays, give them a call. You can pray for their concerns and be their connector. Be the link between your Sunday worship neighbor and the ministries of Congregational Care!
PRAYER MINISTRIES
Our purpose is to ensure no one walks alone through the challenges and difficulties of life.
Two volunteers join the pastor on Sunday mornings thirty minutes before the service in the pastor’s office to pray with our pastor. The prayer time is approximately 10 minutes. Members of this team rotate approximately every one to two months to ensure our pastor or guest preacher is covered with prayer.
The Prayer Chain is a network of individuals covering prayer requests. Prayer requests are sent by email to people who pray for individual needs within the church community and often for people outside the church (relatives, friends, co-workers of the church community) This important confidential volunteer opportunity can be done from home! All you need is an email address. Click on the button above to submit a prayer request.
This team of volunteers offers intercessory prayer for individual members of the congregation at the end of the service at the Prayer Wall in the Worship Center. This is a one-on-one prayer time. The time requirement for this is usually 5-10 minutes once a month. You do not need any special training, just a caring heart and a listening ear. These prayers are considered confidential.
This group meets in the upstairs Chapel on Monday evenings at 6:30pm for about 30-45 minutes to pray for the needs of Shiloh UMC and the people of Shiloh. Anyone is welcome to join the prayers. We pray for Pastor Ken and his family as well as all Shiloh staff. We also lift up in prayer the ministries of the church, our local community, our military, our nation & leadership. There are prayer needs as well as praises lifted each week and how prayers are being answered! Please join us!
“It’s not about the quilt, it’s all about the prayers.” The purpose of our ministry is to promote prayer, not to make and give away quilts.
This group of volunteers assists in making prayer quilts to be used on Sunday mornings for special prayer requests of Shiloh family members. The quilt is displayed for the church to “tie a knot and say a prayer” for the need. The volunteers have all levels of sewing skills from beginners to skilled.
The first quilt was given in January 2004. Quilt 318 was prayed over in July 2019. Several chapters were started in other churches because of a quilt given from Shiloh UMC. Quilts have gone to Shiloh members as well as people in the community and in other states. The Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry also make Baptismal Squares, Confirmation Squares, and Pocket Prayer Squares.
For more information or to find out how you can help, please complete this volunteer form. The Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry is supported by donations of time, materials, and sewing talents.
To request a quilt contact Mary Walker. Ask the person for permission before you give the gift of a prayer quilt, and ask how you might best direct your prayers for that person. Do not accept payment for a prayer quilt. The quilt is a gift of love and prayers, which cannot be bought or sold.
Shiloh has begun a periodic Healing Service. It is usually advertised a few weeks in advance and is in the evening, in the Shiloh chapel. The service is casual and is opened with Pastor Ken sharing some thoughts & scripture or responsive reading.
At the previous services, Michelle, our worship director, has led us in a few songs/hymns. It is a Spirit-filled time to gather together and support one another and pray for those requesting healing; whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual. The request for prayer can be with all who attend or privately with Pastor Ken or a Stephen Minister. The Healing Service is open to all, including the community.
The card ministry is supported by a prayer chain volunteer who sends out cards to individuals experiencing life changing events. The card ministry also supports the church office by sending out a sympathy card to Shiloh church members who have lost a family member.
